This Tuscan area is rich of interesting attractions and it is composed by 5 counties: Asciano, Colle Val d'Elsa (with Palazzo Campana and Palazzo Pretorio), Poggibonsi (famous for its Chianti Classico production and for the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta and the Poggio Imperiale Fortress, an architecture masterpiece). Another interesting town to visit is San Quirico d'Orcia. |

The area around Siena, a town famous for its cakes and desserts, such as panforte and ricciarelli, gives and wide range of flavours, such as the cacciatora wild boar meat, the finocchiona salami and many different pork meat salami (there are still many cinta senese pork meat breedings), and the agrodolce hair meat. Some of the best product of this places are the olive oil and the several wines (Chianti classico, Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello di Montalcino) and the famous Fiorentina steak (chianina or maremmana types).
Other Tuscan dishes are the "pici" (a kind of hand made pasta) and the "ribollita" (the most famous tuscan soup).

Bagno Vignoni, a unique borough, with a large water tub as large as the square itself. Soon out of town are the ancient Roman baths and some charming waterfalls.

Pienza, a small masterpiece of southern Tuscany, with its Duomo, Palazzo Piccolomini, the famousWell. Walking around Pienza is an incredible experience, since any detail is still kept the way it was during the Middle Age and the Renaissance. A real jump in the past ! |
