Artistic & Cultural Itinerary: The Scarzuola Convent, the Tommaso Buzzi Ideal City
Saint Frances of Assisi founded the Scarzuola Convent in 1218, where he sow laurel and a rose and made them turn into a water source where still today people usually go.
The Convent name derives from the high amount of "scarza" plant in the area, which the "Serafico" built his home which.
In the little church is kept an Eighteenth Century fresco, one of the first rising Saint portraits. In 1956 the Convent complex was bought and restored by Architect Tommaso Buzzi (1900-1981), an important Twentieth Century Milan character, which from 1958 to 1978 projected and built his Ideal Theatre City next to the Convent. The Buzzi City has 7 theatres. Its best part is the Acropolis, a high buildings complex which is empty inside, composed of many areas, such as a termite place. This way, infinite perspectives come out.
For visitors, this place is a starting trip between the Sacre and the Pagan Cities, among the Convent and the Teatre buildings, both full of symbols and mysteries. The typical Buzzi style is the Neomanierism, because of his use of stairs in any directions, distorted architectonic elements, monsters, not correct proportions and green statues in the Archimbold way. Although, Caron and surrealistic architecture styles are present.
